1. The Original Factory Lacquer Clear Coat
There is an Original Lacquer clear coat (Protection & Gloss) on top of the base (colour) coat, it is rather describes as a given paint system that easily lends itself to correction (buffing & polishing) & its ability to be restored after been abraded over the years by environmental or man-made impact . So the question, is there a need for an additional coating(s) over the original Factory clear coat which is the intended purpose of paint protection? Coating your car may be as costly as respray painting it. It’s just coating overlaying coating.
2. Durability, Hydrophobic effect & Scratch resistance
Durability here just only means how long the coating will stay on your car. When it comes to durability, we believe some coatings do stay on your car over a period of time but the Original Lacquer Clear Coat stays on throughout the ownership of your car! While the Original Lacquer Clear Coat withstand polish after polish, bringing back the 'showroom' shine after shine, polishing your ride equals polishing away that additional coating you spend big money on. Hydrophobic effect & high gloss only last longer WITH PROPER & REGULAR MAINTENANCE which simply means regular polishes & waxing. Regular care is the key to having smooth & perfect Factory paint condition always, even with additional coatings.

Scratch resistance (Hardness), micron-metre thin coatings do slightly reduce the risk of light scratches due to its hardness (by only 5% to 10%). Most coating thickness is 2-3 microns (1 layer), only 0.002mm to 0.003mm. Original Factory Lacquer clear coat thickness average about 38-102 microns (0.038mm-0.102mm), with respray thickness up to 180 microns. Your Lacquer Clear Coat being 10 to 20 times thicker than average coatings & it is very certain that your Lacquer Clear Coat will outlast any coatings.
Mohs Scale Of Mineral Hardness:
· 1H = Talcum powder
· 1.5H = Pencil lead
· 2H = Carbon black
· 2.3 – 2.5H = Finger nail
· 3.2 – 3.5H = Copper penny
· 6H = Glass
· 7H = Quartz & titanium dioxide
· 6 – 9H = Nano Glass / Ceramic Coatings (some, but NOT all)
· 10H = Diamond

But to understand this further, the Mohs scale applies to RAW minerals and metallic elements; NOT coatings. 9H hardness can only be achieved with a certain minimum thickness requirement (lab tests), not micron-metre thin. Some coating specialists claim that they have a coating with a hardness of 9. If this were true, a synthetic diamond at 8H would not be able to scratch such a coating! Only other elements such as ruby and real diamonds would be able to scratch these coatings claiming a hardness of 9.

Certain manufacturers uses the pencil scale to determine the hardness. In general, a pencil hardness falls between 2 and 3 Mohs. The softest pencil (9B) can be as soft as 1.5 Mohs, while the hardest pencil (9H) can go up to 3 Mohs. To put this in perspective, a human finger nail is around 2.5 Mohs, so even a 9H grading on a coating would be about 3 Mohs in comparison, just barely sufficient to prevent scratches cause by our nails. Coatings are not designed to make a car totally invincible to damage but they provide an extra layer of slight protection against UV and debris.

For bird dropping/Water spots prevention, it's not letting its droplets dry/evaporate on the surface of paint work after being exposed to rain. Wax, Sealant or additional coatings are not entirely resistant to water spots mark. Relatively, by applying wax/Sealant regularly, it's hydrophobic properties allows the paint to bead/sheet off water more efficiently, leaving most paint surface dry after rain, thus reducing risk of watermark greatly and reducing the time & effort to wipe down your vehicle every time after you park your car during wet weather.
3. Old & traditional & ineffective
That is the PLUS point of Wax & Sealant products. Most car enthusiast or collectors prefer wax & sealant for that it is non-permanent, non-abrasive (will not abrade your original clear coat), easy-to-apply & the nature of wax/sealant product gives a high standard of deep, wet, vibrant gloss finish more supreme to other products. Coatings or paint protective films (PPF) may dim the original paint colour & becomes a concern when comes to any spray painting works & may hinder any form of paint/body restoration works if not properly removed. Be it the Original Clear Coat or any other additional coatings in the market, both will only be effective in preserving its' high gloss & beading result with support of wax & sealant. Both (coating & sealant) are of different categories, incomparable & up till now, wax & sealant are the most prescribe & conclusive solution to paintwork care.
